Weight Loss Supplements
Herbal products are prepared from plant- often using the leaves,
stems, roots and or bark, As well as the buds and flowers. Known for
thousands of years as medicinal agents. Many plant parts can be used
in their natural form, or they can be refined into tables,
Capsules, powders, tinctures and other supplement formulations. Many
herbs have several active compounds that interact with one another
to produce a therapeutic effect. A herbal product may contain all
the compounds found in a plant, or just one or two of the isolated
compound that have been successfully extracted in the case of some
herbs, however, they active agents haven’t been identifies, so it’s
necessary to use the complete herb to obtain all its benefits.
The herbal weight loss products are:
-

aids This widespread use creates potential problems from inadvertent
overdosing. Ephedrine is a potent stimulant similar to amphetamines.
It gives you a nervous high , blunting your appetite. However, it is
not safe for those with heart conditions, high blood pressure,
diabetes. Or thyroid disease. For most people, small amounts are
safe, but too much of it can make anyone’s heart race and blood
pressure soar. Because herbal product like ma huang are not
standardized in the amount they contain, they are best avoided.

perceive it to be. Research shows that PPA, an appetite suppressant,

has approved it for 12 weeks at a time, but products containing it
must carry warnings on their labels that should not be dismissed.

herbal experts who say their ingredients are untested and not
standardized, leaving the door open for fraud and health risks.
Common ingredients in the teas promoted for weight loss include:
ginseng, locust plant, papaya, buchu leaves, and juniper berries.
-
Lecithin
This fatty substance has been touted for weight
loss forever, it seems, but it’s no more useful now than it was
years ago when it was introduced.
-
Amino acids (carnitine)
This popular amino acid supplement
and others, such as arginine, ornithine, lysine, and methionine, are
said to enhance the burning of fat. Although amino acid levels
increase in the rate of body-fat burning. In addition, amino acids
have calories; supplementing with them means supplementing your
calorie intake, too.
