Proactive acne treatment was developed in 1995 by two Stanford University trained dermatologists (Dr Katie Rodan and Dr Kathy Fields), who felt strongly about finding a better treatment for acne. They called the treatment proactive solution because they claim the formula can heal existing blemishes while proactively helping to prevent new ones from forming.
Proactive acne treatment works on the concept of treating the whole face rather than working on individual blemishes. It is a combination therapy that uses several different medicines in one system to heal and prevent blemishes. Proactive solution uses a three step approach involving a cleanser, renewing cleanser, revitalizing toner and repairing lotion.
The cleanser contains a gentle exfoliant which helps to unblock the
pores and benzoyl peroxide which is an
ingredient that helps to dry
out and sterilize blemishes. The revitalizing toner also helps to
unclog pores as well as remove any dead skin cells that can
potentially cause blemishes. The repairing lotion is the final step
in the treatment which transports benzoyl peroxide deep into the
pores to kill acne causing bacteria at the source of the problem.
As well as the three step treatment there is a four step treatment
that includes a daily oil control product, or an oil free
moisturizer with SPF 15 or there is a five piece treatment that
includes both. There is also a proactive mask which is a bit like an
added extra to boost the three step treatment.
