Is Medifast Safe? Are There Any Stimulants In The Products?
Over the past 25 years, Medifast has been recommended by the over 15,000 physicians. For over 8 years, the Johns Hopkins Weight Management Center has chosen Medifast products for their very low calorie diets. In clinical studies conducted by Johns Hopkins, males lost an average of 67.41 lbs. and females lost an average of 47.5 lbs. after being on the Medifast program for 16 weeks. Researchers concluded that the Medifast weight loss program provides a safe, effective means of weight reduction and are accompanied by significant improvements in coexisting health problems.
The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health studied the efficacy of Medifast Plus for Diabetics by comparing Medifast to basic nutrition recommendations provided by the American Diabetic Association. Results of the study show that Type II Diabetics, using Medifast Plus for Diabetics, lost twice as much weight as those following the ADA's recommended food guidelines and were twice as likely to stick with the diet. It's meaning that you can safely use Medifast even if you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or triglycerides, or adult-onset diabetes, including if you are insulin dependent.
Medifast products are primarily made from soy, along with significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. It does NOT contain any added caffeine, stimulants, ephedra or other herbs that might be harmful to your body. Medifast Plus with Citrimax contains a natural appetite suppressant made from the vine of a South Asian fruit. Super Citrimax works without stimulating the central nervous system so does not cause problems with heart rate, blood pressure or other symptoms such as insomnia or nervousness. Intake up to 2800mg a day of HCA has been shown to have no related side effects.
However, Medifast is a nutritionally balanced very low calorie diet (VLCD) program. VLCDs can produce electrolyte imbalances, heartbeat irregularities and gallstones. You should check with your doctor before starting a VLCD and get medical supervision while on the Medifast.
