Partial
sub-muscular implant placement
In partial sub-muscular implant
placement, the implant is placed behind the
breast tissue and partially under the
pectoral and other chest muscles. During the
procedure, the lowest part of the Pectoralis
Major muscle is cut so that the upper part
of the implant sits deeply beneath the
muscle, but the lower part sits beneath the
breast (subglandular).
A woman's breast is soft tissue that extends
over and beyond the pectoral muscles of the
upper chest. Olding: During the procedure,
the lowest part of the Pectoralis Major
muscle is cut so that the upper part of the
implant may sit beneath and deeply into the
muscle. However, the lower part of the
implant sits beneath the breast (sub
glandularly).
The breast comprises a complex group of
tissues, including glandular, fatty, and
fibrous tissues. The breast is positioned
over the Pectoral Muscles of the chest wall
and is attached to the chest wall by fibrous
strands called Cooper's ligaments. The
glandular and fatty tissue in the breast is
what gives the breast the soft consistency.
This tissue extends throughout the breasts,
surrounding the glands and fibrous tissues.

Complete sub-muscular implant placement
In full sub-muscular implant
placement, the implant is placed behind the
breast and the major muscle groups in the
chest area.
A woman's breast is a soft tissue that
extends over the muscles of the upper chest.
The breast comprises a complex group of
tissues, including glandular, fatty, and
fibrous tissues. The breast is positioned
over the pectoral muscles of the chest wall
and is attached to the chest wall by fibrous
strands called Cooper's ligaments. The fatty
tissue in the breast is what gives the
breast the soft consistency. This tissue
extends throughout the breasts, surrounding
the glands and fibrous tissues.
Two groups of muscles behind the breast are
the Pectoralis Major and Pectoralis Minor.
The Pectoralis Major muscles attach to the
upper arm area and stretch out across the
chest like a fan. The Pectoralis Minor
muscles attach to the shoulder blade
(scapula) and stretch down to the ribs. The
abdominal muscles stretch from the lower
stomach to the middle of the chest. The
serratus muscles extend from the front
surface of the ribs to the shoulder blade.
The muscle fascia is the covering for the
muscle tissues.
The optimum implant placement location depends on the size of the breast implants, your individual anatomy, and other factors related to your goals and expectations. This consumer guide provides articles on each placement location. Below you'll find a brief introduction to each article.
