The resort, nestled at the
base of the Chugach Mountains
near Turnagain Arm, is an
outdoor lover's mecca. Access to
the mountain is made easier by
the ski area's tram, which
climbs Mount Alyeska between
10:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. The
five-minute ride ends 2,300 feet
above sea level with spectacular
views of Turnagain Arm and seven
glaciers. Tram ticket prices
range from $7 to $16.
Alyeska hosts a variety of
summer activities and
celebrations including the
Alyeska 5-kilometer Fun Run
(early July), the Midnight Sun
Paragliding Fly-In (early July),
the Alyeska Mountain Run
(mid-August) and the Blueberry
and Mountain Arts Festival
(early September). Other
activities at the resort include
tandem paragliding and guided
mountain hikes.
Hatcher Pass: (Near Anchorage)
One of the best backcountry
boarding areas in the world.
Deep snow. Major snow. Nestled
between mountain peaks about 45
miles north of Anchorage is the
destination of choice for
backcountry snowboarders. With
elevation up to 4,600 feet and
over 3,000 acres of varied
terrain it's easy to find
untracked snow when riding here.
Alyeska Resort: (Near Anchorage)
In addition to Olympic-caliber slopes, snowboarders and
sightseers alike can ride the resort's 60-passenger tram to a
mountaintop facility for breathtaking views of Turnagain Arm and
the surrounding Chugach Mountains. The resort has a professional
quality half pipe and is host to many of the USASA Alaska
Snowboard Series amateur competitions. Competitions in both half
pipe and slalom events serve as qualifiers for Nationals.
Eaglecrest Ski Area: (Juneau)
Small area 12 miles from downtown Juneau on Douglas Island,
the area features 640 acres of open-tree terrain. With 31 alpine
runs, a tubing hill, 8 kilometers of Nordic trails, night
skiing, and a terrain park for boarders. When the snow is good
it's a great place.
Heli-skiing:
Depart the Alyeska resort and immediately enter the lush
wilderness of the Chugach National Forest with an experienced
Alaska bush pilot. Whether you want to land on a mountain lake,
fly over fjords, view glaciers and wildlife or just enjoy the
phenomenal and breathtaking beauty of the last frontier.
